The Red Feather Has a New Home

I'm happy to finally open the doors to theredfeather.se.

The Red Feather began quite simply as a home for many of my own creative rights.

After years of working across music, film, literature and other forms of storytelling, the catalogue had grown considerably. There were recordings, compositions, books, screenplays, films, plays and story worlds, sometimes closely connected and sometimes completely independent from one another. They needed somewhere to live, but also somewhere to be cared for over time.

Gradually, The Red Feather became something larger.

Today it is an independent rights house working with representation, licensing, publishing, intellectual property development and long term stewardship.

And importantly, it is no longer only about my work.

The house can represent individual creators, works, catalogues and intellectual properties. Sometimes The Red Feather publishes something itself. In many cases, however, the role is different: to represent a work, manage its rights, develop its possibilities and help find the right partners for what comes next.

That distinction is important to me.

There are already excellent publishers, producers, record labels, broadcasters, distributors and other specialists. The ambition is not necessarily to replace them or to do everything under one roof. Quite the opposite. The Red Feather works with these worlds.

A book may belong with another publisher. A story may find its next life as a film or television series. Music may find its way into a production through licensing. A screenplay, play, catalogue or larger story world may need representation and development before finding the right partner.

Rights can also return. Catalogues move. Projects change form. Creators sometimes need a long term home for work that does not fit neatly into one traditional category.

That is where I increasingly see the role of The Red Feather.

Representation, licensing and stewardship.

There is also something about the word stewardship that I particularly like. Creative works can have remarkably long lives. A release date is only one moment in that life. A piece of music, a character, a book or an entire fictional world can find new audiences, formats and meanings many years after it was first created.

Managing rights therefore shouldn't only be about exploiting what can be sold today. It should also be about understanding what a work is, protecting it and remaining curious about what it might become tomorrow.

The new website brings together the works, people and philosophy behind the house, along with a journal where new publications, representation, licensing and other developments will appear over time.

It feels good to finally give The Red Feather a proper public home.

Welcome inside.
