I’m excited to share that my new album, Themes Retold Vol. 2, is now released. It’s the follow-up to last year’s Themes Retold Vol. 1 and features 16 tracks. New arrangements of my music from films, TV series, and games, along with several previously unreleased pieces.
This time, I had the pleasure of working closely with my brilliant former interns, Jonas Skogsmo and Krenar Sejdiu. Together, we revisited cues I’ve composed over the years and gave them fresh life. I’ve also included a few pieces co-written with Joel Forssell.
It's also several tracks that I myself have reworked or previously not released.
A Journey Through My Work
The album opens with the orchestral and bombastic Båtfärden from the short film Drakar och Demoner: Tronländaren, and continues with Sami and Omar from Vitt Skräp (Geared Up), a cue inspired by both The Brothers Lionheart and First Man.
For the first time, I’m releasing music from We Hunt Giants (dir. Titus Paar), six minutes of atmosphere and action, withaction, with fragments of dialogue and sound design left in, and Dominick Cruz, a reflective piano-led piece from the 2010 documentary seen around the world.
With Finale from The Huntress (dir. Rasmus Tirzitis), Jonas and I returned to an orchestral approach, adding the distinct timbre of the hammered dulcimer. A 50s Diner from The Box (dir. Richard Jarnhed) brings twisted retro energy and has already passed 400,000 streams on Spotify.
From Tango to Sci-Fi Dystopia
Some of the other highlights for me include the atmospheric Dystopia Endings from the TV series Dystopia (dir. Richard Jarnhed), a surprising tango version of Lead Ending from Lead (Henrik Summanen & Sofia Berg), and gritty early tracks from Alex (dir. Richard Jarnhed), co-written with Joel Forssell.
There’s also the elvish music Kropikalla and Vanir from the game The Seeds of Vanir, the playful yet melancholic Repögla Suit from Rasmus Tirzitis’s short film Repögla, and the anti-war Through Mud and Mist from All Quiet on the Western Front.
One of the most special moments for me is Storesyrran from Syster, a touching short film about two sisters, where the younger secretly tries on her older sister’s clothes and makeup. I improvised the music in a single take while the scene played beside me, capturing the mood in the moment.
Finally, there’s No Red Eyes Suit from the Danish short film No Red Eyes, a moody and dystopian piece from a story whose tone would later inspire other Scandinavian sci-fi productions.
A Global Collaboration
Musicians from nine countries contributed to this album, making it a truly international project.
A big thank you to Jonas, Krenar, Joel, all the musicians, and to the directors and creators who originally brought these stories to life.
Themes Retold Vol. 2 is available now on Spotify, Tidal, and most major music platforms.
