Vilsen (Ave Mater) so far got over 30 prices on film festivals and been among the official selection a lot. The latest award was won in Barcelona were Rasmus Tirzitis (editor), mine (music) and Eki Jokisalo (sound) for the trailer.
I have been a fan of MovieScore Media for a while now so it’s a very good feeling to be released on that great label. Ave Mater (Vilsen) is a score I am very proud of. Click HERE to go to MovieScore Medias page about the score.
Composing the score meant me setting out on a journey to create something dark, exciting and filled with suspense, but not horror. Rasmus was rather clear that he felt that the music should be the ‘beating heart and soul of the film’, a true guide throughout the story. To work with a couple of clear themes got important with the choir and the cello became crucial to capture the feeling of the occult.
In the wait for the proper Soundtrack release reviewers of the film itself have written and said various things about the music. An overwhelmingly positive response (all the qoutes are originaly in Swedish but now translated to English):
“The winner of the award of recognition for composing the music for Vilsen (Ave Mater), Simon Kölle”
- Hollywood Film Festival
“The Excitment is substantial and the music build the suspense in a fantastic way”
“Even though the film had a limited budget it got high procution values and most of all when it comes to the editing and music. But also the special effects that are practical and very well done”
“The Music is outstanding and you are always on tenterhooks”
- SF Anytime
“Unusual story being a swedish film, great music”
“In the action scenes and really suspensefull moments and very scary sequences the music is dead on target”
“The Music is good and it succeded to trick me to make the scenes more cool, more emotional what they really are if you had watched the scenes wihout music”
- Famous Swedish podcasts
“Fiting music, well coreographed fights and an exciting and mystical story”
